The Georgia Prison Warden's Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to organize and promote the administration of the prison system of Georgia and the persons in charge thereof. It shall create a coordinated interest among county, state, and private (corporate) wardens and superintendents to work toward common goals, to promote the welfare of all facilities, and to promote education for employees and their families through a scholarship program. It shall also be the purpose to promote the cooperation of every state and county official as well as the citizenry of this state in an effort to protect society, acquaint the general public with the difficulties faced in efforts to rehabilitate inmates, and curb crime through proper treatment of offenders.
For more than 70 years, the Georgia Prison Warden's Association has been an effective model for correctional leadership and training. Founded in 1939 originally as the Georgia County Prison Warden's Association, the organization evolved into the Georgia Prison Warden's Association to include county, state, and private prison wardens.
Each year at the Georgia Prison Warden's Association summer conference, the Association recognizes professionals who have dedicated their careers to ensuring the integrity and vitality of the corrections profession, and those who have retired during the course of the year. Fund raising events are held to provide scholarships for academic pursuits of degrees.
